The Lake Mead third water intake is now open.

This is a significant project for Southern Nevada.  Although Southern Nevada uses a small amount of the Colorado River supply (less than 1.8%), a lower level intake was necessary to maintain an adequate water supply in the event that the lake level goes below the previous lowest intake.
